Hi, I’m Drew.

I’m a sustainability consultant, community organizer, and climate activist. I work for Planet Earth but provide consulting services for employee engagement through the Climate Leadership Collective, helping organizations make sustainability part of everybody's job.

I work with employers to create top-down programming to engage the entire workforce in sustainability, and with employees to create bottom-up initiatives to make every job a climate job. I weave together elements of change management, leadership development, communities of practice, and green skilling to transform sustainability from an operational task driven by a single team, into a cultural value every team and employee feels responsible for and empowered to contribute to.

  • My path into sustainability was an unlikely one. I spent my early career touring in a punk band, then sailed with Sea Shepherd Conservation Society on direct-action missions to protect marine wildlife from poachers. Later, I worked for environmental nonprofits restoring wildlife habitat and managing volunteer networks. The DIY spirit from those years still shapes everything I do: scrappy, resourceful, and always people powered!

In 2016, I joined Microsoft and wondered what the resources of a trillion-dollar company could do for the climate crisis — and what one employee could do to help. When I couldn’t find a playbook, I wrote one. I co-founded Microsoft’s employee sustainability community, which grew to more than 10,000 members across 40 countries and became a driving force behind the company’s climate leadership.

That experience showed me how much change can start from the inside, and how community makes it possible. From punk shows to boardrooms, I’ve learned that leadership has nothing to do with authority, and great sustainability innovations can come from anyone, anywhere. I want to change to paradigm of who is allowed to work on sustainability.

When I’m not working, you can find me outside with my dog Remy enjoying the beautiful forests and mountains of the Pacific Northwest. I’m also into permaculture, music, ping pong, cycling, hiking, and dumpster diving.
